Browser Recommendations & Settings for Moodle

This learning platform and course management system (CMS) is run through a platform known as Moodle. This secure software package allows us to create effective online learning and assessment materials based on sound pedagogical principles. Moodle makes it possible for learners to access, download and submit files and work to simplify the learning and assessment process.

The following browser recommendations and settings will improve your experience using Moodle and ensure access to the learning materials, resources and activities.

Browser Versions

For security purposes it is recommended that you regularly update your computer browser to the most recent version for your operating system.

Recommended Browsers and Versions

We recommend that you use the latest version of Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, or Safari for the best Moodle experience. Moodle may also operate on other browsers, but with some limitations.

Note: Where submissions on Moodle are checked for plagiarism using Turnitin there is a known conflict between Safari and the Turnitin platform for Moodle and we recommend using other computer browsers.

Browser Settings

The following browser settings should be selected:

  • Enable Cookies
  • Enable Javascript*

* Some devices such as tablets, PCs and SmartScreen’s with touch screen capabilities may cause problems with Moodle's drag-and-drop features used in some assessment questions.  If you experience problems with such devices, we recommend that you use a desktop computer when you need these features. You can also turn off Javascript in your browser and use the alternative interface instead of drag-and-drop.

Moodle Mobile

Moodle also allows for remote learning and easy access to courses and eLearning content anywhere, anytime, and is available offline via the Moodle Mobile app. for Apple iOS and Android-based devices.

Moodle Mobile allows learners to access course content, videos, and other files; receive notifications; send messages to fellow learners and educators; attempt quizzes and participate in forums from their mobile devices.

Note: It is strongly recommended that if you are completing any examination questions on this learning platform to use a desktop computer or tablet with large screen display only. This will ensure the images that form part of the examination questions and the layout appear correctly and that answers from drop-down menus are all visible at once.

For any issues arising with the Moodle learning platform or difficulty accessing the content or examination questions, please contact the Administrator via: admin@salus.education or telephone: 01427 838587.

Please note: the Salus Education learning platform is not monitored for messages 24/7, but we do our best to respond as quickly as possible to any technical/IT issues.
